multiples

Harder Division of Fractions

Identify highest common factors and least common multiples.

Solve multiplication and division problems that involve fractions.

Multiplying Tens

Multiply by 10s, 100s, 1000s, and other multiples of 10.

Guzzinta

This unit looks at simple rules that will decide when any number has the factors 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.  It also looks at how we can quickly tell what remainder a number has when it is divided by 3 or 9.  We also give the proofs of these rules.  These ideas are tested by word problems.

Discovery

Here we look for patterns in some number problems and see how far we can extend two basic ideas.  The main point of this unit is to produce conjectures although we will spend a little time on proofs.

The Escape

Find strategies for investigating number problems;

Find a common multiple of a group numbers.

Calculator count to 1000

Use calculators to explore multiples of numbers to a 1000

Identify number patterns in multiples.

Devise and use problem solving strategies

Counting Cubes

skip count in 2s, 3s, and 5s

devise and use problem solving strategies (make an organised list)

A Prime Search

In this unit we use rectangular models or arrays to explore numbers from one to fifty.  We practice expressing numbers as the product of two smaller numbers and in doing so identify the factors of a number.  We are also introduced to prime numbers.

Common Multiples

This activity provides students with a fun, game context in which to practice finding common multiples of numbers. Ths activity build knowledge tohelp develop multiplicative strategies.

Multiple Patterns

In this activity we use a 1-100 grid to identify multiples of single digit numbers.  In particular we are looking for patterns and how they could be used to identify multiples.
