In Shape to Race

• Figure It Out Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Two

This is a Level 2 Geometry activity from the Figure It Out Series.

Shapes in Life

• Figure It Out Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Two

This is a Level 2 Geometry activity from the Figure It Out Series.

Castles On The Ground

• Problem Solving Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Four

Construct 3D shapes from 2D drawings

Describe the symmetries of 3D shapes

Draw 3D shapes on isometric paper

Interpret information and results in context; make conjectures in a mathematical context;

Devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically (guess and check, use equipment).

The Castle

• Problem Solving Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Four

Construct 3-D shapes from 2-D drawings

Describe the symmetries of 3-D shapes

Draw 3-D shapes on isometric paper

Devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically (guess and check, use equipment)

More of Carrie's Cubes

• Problem Solving Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Four

Apply the properties of 3-D objects to solve a problem

Visualise 3-D objects

Devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically (be systematic)

Odd Thing Out

• Problem Solving Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Two

List a number of properties that distinguish the 3-dimensional solids of the problem.

Devise and use Problem Solving Strategies to explore situations mathematically in particular guess and check, draw a picture, use equipment.

Odd One Out

• Problem Solving Activities
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level One

list a number of properties that distinguish squares from circles from cubes from pentagons.

devise and use problem solving strategies to explore situations mathematically (guess and check, make a drawing, use equipment).

Russian Boxes

• Units of Work
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Five

In this unit a number of small boxes are produced (by folding), that fit inside one another like Russian dolls. Lengths are measured and areas and volumes are calculated in order to make scale comparisons.

Foil Fun

• Units of Work
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level Two

In this unit students will be having hands-on experiences with three-dimensional solid shapes. They will investigate the features of solid shapes and learn the names for them. They will be introduced to making nets for 3D shapes.

Visit ESOL Online for a version of this unit designed to support students for whom English is an additional language.

New Kids on the Block

• Units of Work
• Geometry and Measurement
• Level One

This unit is suited to a small class at a school where large building blocks and wood off-cuts are readily available. Asking students to construct objects affords a prime time to observe and listen to their language as they build. Using blocks is a powerful medium for improving students' perception of objects and encourages creativity.
