Purpose of the Site
This site is part of the on-line educational resources provided by the UK television channel, Channel 4. It provides seven on-line puzzles to develop skills in number operations (+,-, x and division), geometry and problem solving and aims to motivate and up-skill students in these areas.
New Zealand Context:
The site is ideal for independent work, giving pupils the practice necessary to reinforce existing skills or skills that have just been introduced in a formal teaching session.
New and Different
The site is appealing with colourful cartoon animation and easily learnt games.
|All games have been built to keep within and compliment the UK National Numeracy Framework, and easily translate to the New Zealand context.
Most of the puzzles develop numeracy skills but two of the more useful ones include Shop Till You Drop – useful for practicing skills with money, as long as both teacher and students are comfortable to work in pounds and pence and Tangrams - good for developing the ability to manipulate shapes.
All students will be able to find something appropriate with 3 levels provided for within each game.
