Purpose of the site:
This number line tool is part of the Ambleside Primary School site in England. It is designed to assist in the differentiated teaching of number sequencing and the investigation of number patterns.
New Zealand context:
This is an open ended interactive tool that could be used in small group teaching situations or set up for independent student use. Using the mouse, coloured blocks can be dragged to hide target numbers or reveal hidden ones. Users can create number lines by inputting values for the start button and the increment. Sequences that count down, negative numbers and decimals can also be explored.
New and different:
The open ended nature of this activity means it can be used in a variety of ways. It is clearly set out, well presented and easy to use. The site also contains an ideas section that outlines possible uses for the number line.
