Purpose of the site:

This section of the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching site aims to utilize the internet as an effective way to distribute teaching resources. They aim to disseminate units of work that focus on the applications of mathematics, along with associated assessment, and banks of useful data.

New Zealand context:

The structure of the units makes them ideal for use as a focus in small group or whole class teaching. They could also be used as a springboard: once students have completed one of he units of work they could investigate and research another real-life application of maths and make presentations to their classmates on their chosen topic. Alternatively, the units may be used as independent work, or extension tasks.

New and Different:

The units of work on this site are ideal as they all use real-world applications of mathematics. Students are involved in small self-contained studies that look at such topics as bar codes, time zones and drinks cans to develop mathematical concepts.

The units of work are well structured and clearly set out making them easy to follow and learn from.
