Purpose of the site:
This site is an online activity using a table of numbers designed to develop students understanding of place value.
New Zealand context:
This site is ideal for independent student use when developing place value understanding. Students are given a number and asked to identify component numbers; for example, 435 = 400 + 30 + 5. This activity provides students with an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge and apply it to a variety of numbers.
New and different:
Teachers can set the number grid to help reinforce the concepts currently being taught and meet a variety of students’ needs. Teachers select the numbers to be included (choosing from whole numbers up to numbers with three decimal places), as well as the smallest number and the largest numbers (up to 999 999) to be included in the table.
