# Target Practice

Keywords:
Purpose:

The aim of this activity is to improve develop students' recall of the basic addition facts.

Achievement Objectives:

Specific Learning Outcomes:

identify possible addends when given a number.

Required Resource Materials:
bean bags
a variety of templates.
Activity:
1. Toss two bean bags at the target (on the floor).
2. Determine the score.
3. Once students are familiar with the task, give them the score and ask them to calculate where the bean bags may have landed.

For example
What two number would you need to hit to achieve a score of 7, 8, 9 etc.
How many other ways could you throw to achieve that score?
What is the highest score you could achieve using this score board?
What score could you get in only one way

4. This activity is easily varied:

• Instead of sequential numbers, use random numbers.
• Increase the numbers to include all possibilities to 19.
• Increase the number of bean bags.

## Up we go

In this unit we work on word problems about climbing up steps and riding in a lift. We learn about different types of problems that can be modelled on number lines. We practice mental calculations with sums to 10 and to 20.

## Using the Slavonic Abacus to Reinforce Five Grouping

Instantly recognise patterns to 10, including finger and tens frame patterns.

Recall the facts up to 10, and the teen facts.

Recall the facts up to 10, and the teen facts.

Recall addition and subtraction facts to 20.

## Loopy

Recall addition and subtraction facts to 20.

Recall the multiplication and division facts for the multiples of 2, 3, 5, and 10.

Recall multiplication to 10 x 10, and the corresponding division facts.

## Bowl a Fact

Recall addition and subtraction facts to 20.

Recall the multiplication and division facts for the multiples of 2, 3, 5, and 10.

Recall multiplication to 10 x 10, and the corresponding division facts.
