Figure It Out is a series of mathematics curriculum support books in full colour designed to supplement existing classroom mathematics programmes. The series is an important component of the Literacy and Numeracy strategy that focuses on clarifying the expectations for learners' progress and achievement, and developing teacher professional capability.

Each book is accompanied by Answers and Teachers' Notes. Many of the answers include explanations, and the notes include relevant achievement objectives and numeracy framework links, suggested teaching approaches, and ways to extend the activities.

Teachers can select particular activities that provide extension to work done in the regular classroom programme, or they can use all or most of the activities in combination with other activities and textbooks to create a classroom programme. The books can also be used for homework activities, and the relevant section in the teachers' notes could be copied for parents. The teachers' notes may also provide useful information that could be given to students as hints.

The series is published on behalf of the Ministry of Education by Learning Media Limited. Sets of books at each of levels 2-3level 3levels 3-4, and levels 4-4+ are distributed free to New Zealand schools, together with the Answers and Teachers' Notes. The Answers and Teachers' Notes are available online from the links above, as well as an ordering function for the student books.

The student activities from 80 of the books from the series have been made available in PDF format. These PDFs have been added to the teachers notes for the activities in the nzmaths resource finder. The remaining student activities are not available due to copyright issues with some images. You can browse the 80 books available online in the Figure It Out carousel interface.
